Collection: MRCOOL Signature 14.5 SEER Air Handlers
As of January 1st, 2023, new efficiency standards will be required for all types of heating and cooling systems. The testing requirements have changed for the units and new ratings of SEER2 and HSPF2 will be the new standard. This regulation will affect both new and existing structures, similar to the standard efficiency increases experienced in 2015.
The new regulations vary by region and system type. Here is a summary of what you need to know:
Northern States – All system types must meet a minimum of 13.4 SEER2 for air conditioning and 14.3 SEER2 and 7.5 HSPF2 for heat pumps. Units manufactured before January 1st, 2023 can still be installed.
Southern (Southeastern) States – Split systems must meet a minimum efficiency of 14.3 SEER2 for both air conditioning and heat pumps and 7.5 HSPF2 for heat pumps. Packaged units must meet 13.4 SEER2 and 6.7 HSPF2. The 7.5 HSPF2/14.3 SEER2 heat pump rating will become a national standard. All units installed after January 1st, 2023 must meet these new standards.
Southwestern States – Split systems must meet a minimum efficiency of 14.3 SEER2 for air conditioning, with an additional requirement of 11.7 EER2 for systems less than 45,000 BTUH and 11.2 EER2 for systems over 45,000 BTUH. Heat pumps require the national standard of 14.3 SEER2 and 7.5 HSPF2. Packaged units must meet 13.4 SEER2, 10.6 EER2, and 6.7 HSPF2. All units installed after January 1st, 2023 must meet these new standards.
